Brilliant Day in Clonshire

Saturday, January 22nd, 2011

We have had a brilliant day in Clonshire today. It was -6 this morning and got up to about 0 for a couple of hours and was below freezing by 4.30pm. We had only the indoor arena as the outdoor was frozen and all our usual Saturday day campers came despite the cold and we had the best fun! This is the kind of day we who work there realise how lucky we are.

Laura rode Fluff in Dans 2pm lesson and they were brilliant, Marina tried Jedward for the first time and liked him, and Kate tried Sundance. The horses and ponies were as good as gold.

Jack Carew was giving hairdressing advice to Niamh and her poor pony Foxy will have to go around with a terrible haircut for a few weeks until it grows out.

Clodagh Lyons was trying out a new pony and it is very pretty.

Sue had riding and road safety training in preparation for the BHS exam next Friday and Dan had Ashling and Sarah on Osiris and Domino for interschools training. We wish them luck in the competition in Thurles tomorrow – if you are friends with them on facebook, send them a good luck message.

And just to make things even better, Aoife Bartley came and spent the day with us. It was great to have Aoife back with us. You might remember Aoife worked with us for a while before going to college and owned the beautiful Gemini. Aoife grew up in Clonshire and we missed her.

Another former staff member Grace is moving to London to pursue her moddeling career so watch this space………….

The equine science department of the University of Limerick are back on Monday so we will be kept busy for the next couple of months.

Lydia Foley on Hollywood Tough Guy

Lydia Foley on Hollywood Tough Guy

Lydia was riding for her school Laurel Hill Secondary FCJ in clonshire on the 31st of October. She had a double clear and her team finished 5th. Lydia borrowed the ride from her older sister Ashley who has evented and showjumped him successfully in the past. Tough guy has had a long career during which he was with Kevin Babington in the usa. We call tough guy the posh horse here at clonshire. Tough Guy can be a grumpy old man in the stable and even polo mints wont get him to prick his ears. Tough Guy loves his showjumping especially when the jumps are high and the time is tight!!!.

Open Teams – Again each rider will do one round in each arena as above.

Individual Entries – these will be taken on the day and we will be running two arenas as per the team competitions.

PLEASE NOTE; All times are estimates only and are to be used as guidelines.

Those students hiring horses or ponies from the centre are asked to check in with the office before going to the stables.

We would ask that each team check in at the office on arrival.

If your team is not on one of the lists above and you think your school was to have sent an entry, please contact Tess at 061 396770.

Also if your team is in the wrong competition, please let us know and we can have it changed.

___________________________________________________________

Any student in secondary school is eligible to ride in the individual competition and you do not need an entry form sent in by your school to do so. Entries for the team event only have to be endorsed by your school.

So if you are a secondary school student and would like to join us on Sunday, we would love to have you – Tess

Interschools Showjumping League

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Clonshire is again proud to be hosting a stage of the Hoofprints Interschools Showjumping League. This year the Clonshire date is Sunday October 31st and in the run up to the competition and during the midterm break, Dan will be holding training clinics for both teams and individuals.

This is a great oportunity to represent your school and you do not have to own your own horse or pony as you can hire one at the centre. It is a good idea if you are not a rider here at Clonshire and you are hiring a horse or pony that you come and ride the horse before the competition so that you can get used to its way of going.

For those of you interested in taking part, all you need to do is request a copy of the entry form from the office, fill it out, have your schools principal sign it and return it with the correct entry fee.

Dress code is simply your school jumper and shirt (tie if one is part of your uniform). You do not need a riding jacket. Jodhpurs, boots and your hat. Gloves are a good idea if you have a pair and remember to tie your hair up.

Last year Ciara, Lauren, Kate and Kelsey from the Crescent College Comprehensive school won the best turned out prize section as well as doing very well individually and as a team.

If you are not riding, you can always come and watch and support your school by cheering them on.
