Brilliant Day in Clonshire

Saturday, January 22nd, 2011

We have had a brilliant day in Clonshire today. It was -6 this morning and got up to about 0 for a couple of hours and was below freezing by 4.30pm. We had only the indoor arena as the outdoor was frozen and all our usual Saturday day campers came despite the cold and we had the best fun! This is the kind of day we who work there realise how lucky we are.

Laura rode Fluff in Dans 2pm lesson and they were brilliant, Marina tried Jedward for the first time and liked him, and Kate tried Sundance. The horses and ponies were as good as gold.

Jack Carew was giving hairdressing advice to Niamh and her poor pony Foxy will have to go around with a terrible haircut for a few weeks until it grows out.

Clodagh Lyons was trying out a new pony and it is very pretty.

Sue had riding and road safety training in preparation for the BHS exam next Friday and Dan had Ashling and Sarah on Osiris and Domino for interschools training. We wish them luck in the competition in Thurles tomorrow – if you are friends with them on facebook, send them a good luck message.

And just to make things even better, Aoife Bartley came and spent the day with us. It was great to have Aoife back with us. You might remember Aoife worked with us for a while before going to college and owned the beautiful Gemini. Aoife grew up in Clonshire and we missed her.

Another former staff member Grace is moving to London to pursue her moddeling career so watch this space………….

The equine science department of the University of Limerick are back on Monday so we will be kept busy for the next couple of months.

Team Clonshire

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

This is a new heading and one you are hopefully going to see alot of !

Any of our riders, livery owners and riding club memebers who are out competing both on their own and school horses will be kept up to date with on our blog under this heading.

Today Team Clonshire were out in force headed by Sue Foley. They were out with the County Limerick Foxhounds to make both the riders and horses braver and to let them all have some fun. The best way to get junior and amature event riders and their horses ready for the season is to have a couple of days hunting.

Sue rode out on Kelso from the school yard and Neringa took Bruce Basheers TK. Bruce offered Neringa TK for the day as it is going to be her last chance to ride him as she is going back home to Lithuania and as TK has always been her favourite, it was very nice of Bruce to give him to her. TK looked great and was surprisingly calm! Olivia Downes was also out on her horse Dollar – it was the first time Dollar went hunting and he came home minus this back shoes but safe and very happy. Olivia had a great day. Clodagh was out on Sienna, another first and Lydia Foley took out her eventing pony Robbie for a bit of fun.

Andrea and Guinness

Andrea and Guinness

This is Andrea from Spain who is living at the centre and improving her riding skills as well as her English. Andrea is taking part in our immersion program. This is where secondary school students come and live with us and go to one of the excellent schools in the area. Andrea is like part of the family and Beanz follows her around like she does Alice!

This program is great if you love horses, want to get a feel for living in another country and become fluent in English. It is a great way to spend your transition or gap years as you dont miss out on important grades. Living with the Foley family and riding at the centre as often as you wish as well as going to competitions, heaven for pony mad girls or boys!

The only downside is that we all become so attached to our long term guests that we miss them terribly when they go back home.
