Equestrian – International Instructor Level 1(BHSAI) Traineeship

On successful completion of the programme the learner is awarded a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Equestrian Instruction
The Course
The Equestrian International Instructor-Level 1 (BHS AI) Traineeship aims to provide both school leavers and unemployed people with an excellent foundation in the skills and practical experience required to gain employment as Instructors in the equine industry and to prepare them for examinations leading to recognised British Horse Society (BHS) Assistant Instructor qualifications.
The Equestrian International Instructor Level 1 (BHS AI) Traineeship is a 48 week programme. The Traineeship consists of 3 weeks off-the-job training with FÁS, 44 weeks training with an approved riding establishment who provide both on and off-the-job training and a final week of off-the-job training with FÁS.
The Job
An Equestrian International Instructor is a qualified worker capable of carrying out competently the range of tasks required in the role including riding, grooming, horse handling, footing and shoeing, grassland care, watering and feeding, teaching and coaching and ride leading.
The Person
You must be 18 years of age and you must have achieved a pass in English at Junior Certificate level or equivalent.
You should demonstrate an aptitude for horse riding and be capable of riding a quiet, experienced horse or pony at walk, trot and canter. You must enjoy working with horses, should possess good communication skills and should enjoy working outdoors. You must be physically fit and be prepared for working unsociable hours including week-end work.
Progression
When qualified you will have opportunities to progress to senior positions in the equestrian industry through your experience and further education or training which you may undertake in areas such as the BHS Intermediate Instructor qualification.

In preparation for the Traineeship you may choose to identify a potential Host Employer for the Work Place Training element of the course.
FAS are currently opening a waiting list for this course and at the moment is it quiet short. We are also planning on running this course again next year.
